Welwyn Grange

Welwyn Grange challenges most people’s expectations of what a Residential Home offers as it’s made up of distinct households, each offering its own home-from-home feel.

THE AIM

Welwyn Grange is a beautiful newly built home, designed to be both ‘fit for purpose’ with a twist of style. The home is made up of individual households of no more than 16 en-suite bedrooms, each having its own air-conditioned lounge and dining areas, as well as access to things like our hair salon, private dining room and cinema room.

Ardale’s newest home Welwyn Grange redefines the standards of care and accommodation through its individual approach. Operating within distinct households, their aim extends beyond the conventional. Ardale, recognising the importance of merging purposeful care with a touch of style, enlisted the expertise of interior designer Heidi Lazenby.

The overarching aim at Welwyn Grange was to seamlessly blend comfort and beauty while prioritising safety. Heidi Lazenby’s thoughtful designs not only create visually appealing spaces but also establish environments that foster physical and mental well-being.

THE SOLUTION

Welwyn Grange believes in providing more than just a place to reside; the care home is meticulously crafted to enhance the quality of life for residents, which is why a range of danfloor carpets were specified to lay the foundations for these schemes.

In residents’ bedrooms, Heidi opted for carpets from the Equinox collection. These not only provide a familiar and comforting feel underfoot but also contribute to the personal and private ambience of their living spaces. Meanwhile, communal areas, including dining rooms, lounges, and corridors, are adorned with carpets from the Evolution Collection. This deliberate selection adds a touch of style, creating aesthetically pleasing environments, all while ensuring practicality and superior performance.

Alongside these Collections, our Entrance Matting product, Trin Step, was also chosen to play a key role in maintaining the cleanliness of all interior floors by effectively preventing the tracking in of dirt.

"Our aim is to build a residents home, one that is safe, warm and caring. We expect the same from the materials we specify including our carpets. They have to create that home from home feeling, offer a dementia friendly palette, perform well and deliver value for money."

THE OUTCOME

Welwyn Grange is not just a care home; it’s a thoughtfully curated living experience, putting all residents at the heart of what they do.
Robert Myers, part of the Ardale Senior Leadership Team behind Welwyn Grange explains “Our aim is to build a residents home, one that is safe, warm and caring. We expect the same from the materials we specify including our carpets. They have to create that home-from-home feeling, offer a dementia friendly palette, perform well and deliver value for money”

To help achieve these safe and beautiful living spaces our Collections offer the following key features:

  • Extreme durability– The Evolution Collection is certified to British Standard classification 33 “Heavy Commercial Use” enabling it to withstand high volumes of foot and wheeled traffic and intense commercial cleaning. Making the Collection the perfect choice for the busy communal areas.
  • Antimicrobial yarn treatment– Both the Equinox and the Evolution Collections include Bi-Ome®, an innovative permanent antimicrobial treatment that is designed to kill harmful bacteria including those that can cause MRSA and C. Diff.
  • Spill safe– All of the selected carpets have an integral protective membrane, preventing liquid spills from penetrating through to the subfloor, reducing contamination, fungal growth, and unpleasant odours.
  • Naturally Sound absorbent– danfloor carpets have great sound absorption qualities, achieving more than 28dB reduction in sound impact levels, which helps to create a therapeutic environment in which people can relax and communicate effectively.
  • Appearance Retention– Manufactured using solution dyed Nylon and Polypropylene yarns, both the Evolution and Equinox Collection offer a locked-in colourfast system that ensures superior colour and light-fastness even when subject to harsh cleaning chemicals.
  • Reduction in fall injuries – Carpet, when compared with vinyl, can reduce injuries caused by trips and falls. It has also been proven that gait speed and step length are greater in older people walking on carpeted areas than when walking on vinyl.
