Falkland Grange

Porthaven is a small, independent, care home company that build and operate market-leading and beautifully designed care homes which are run professionally, responsibly and most importantly, with integrity and care for their residents.

THE AIM

Porthaven aims to create care homes where their residents are able to live well, and Falkland Grange is no exception.

Offering a range of care including, respite, nursing, residential and dementia, Falkland Grange had to consider a wide range of design principles that would accommodate all their residents along with their specific care needs.

Enlisting the design inspiration of Kerry Southern, and her team at The Care Home Interiors Company, Porthaven aimed to provide spacious and private, single and double occupancy bedrooms equipped with en-suite wet rooms, communal areas that provide a real sense of community, a private dining room for family celebrations, a café and even a cinema to complete the wide range of facilities on offer within a beautiful care home that promotes resident wellbeing.

THE SOLUTION

In collaboration with Sean Kime Commercial Director at Porthaven, the Care Home Interiors Company knew that the products specified for Falkland Grange would have to tick many boxes. Firstly, they would have to create a homely yet luxurious environment, providing a stylish finish that all residents could call home, but more importantly, the finishings had to be functional and suitable for a dementia inclusive home.

Kerry selected several ranges from the Evolution Collection including Glaze colour 387 and Geo Form colour 298, both of which provide a stunning foundation for the interior design schemes and sit fantastically well with the chosen colours and hues. The innovative performance features of the Evolution Collection would ensure the carpets perform even under intense footfall and when subject to commercial cleaning methods.

In addition to the more patterned ranges, the Equinox and Economix Collections plains were installed to provide a tonal and uncomplicated finish for those living with cognitive impairments and forms of dementia. The colours selected also sit well alongside the Evolution ranges and have helped to create rug effects within the bedrooms.

We had to create a homely yet luxurious environment, providing a stylish finish that all residents could call home, but more importantly the finishings had to be functional and suitable for a dementia inclusive home.

THE OUTCOME

Kerry Southern selected a number of ranges from danfloor’s Healthcare Collection to meet the needs of all the residents and staff at Falkland Grange. The carpets not only create a beautiful, homely and comfortable interior for all, but also offer the following outstanding performance features, which means that the carpets will maintain their beautiful appearance over time:

  • Extreme durability– The Economix and Evolution Collection are certified to British Standard classification 33 “Heavy Commercial Use” enabling them to withstand high volumes of foot and wheeled traffic and intense commercial cleaning. Making the ranges ideal for the corridors and communal areas.
  • Appearance Retention– Manufactured using solution-dyed Nylon and Polypropylene yarns, both the Evolution, Economix and Equinox Collection offer a locked-in colourfast system that ensures superior colour and light-fastness even when subject to harsh cleaning chemicals.
  • Spill safe– All of the selected carpets have an integral protective membrane, preventing liquid spills from penetrating through to the subfloor, reducing contamination, fungal growth and unpleasant odours.
  • Antimicrobial yarn treatment– All the ranges have been developed to include Bi-Ome®, an innovative antimicrobial treatment that is designed to kill harmful bacteria including those that can cause MRSA and E-coli.
  • Naturally Sound absorbent– danfloor carpets have great sound absorption qualities, achieving in excess of 28dB reduction in sound impact levels, which helps to create a “therapeutic environment” in which people can relax and communicate effectively.
