Wiltshire Air Ambulance

Wiltshire Air Ambulance’s custom-built facility brings together the operational and charity teams together under one roof for the first time, which will not only improve the vital service they offer but ensure the stability of their future.

THE AIM

Wiltshire Air Ambulance was established in 1990 as a joint venture between the Wiltshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust and the Wiltshire Constabulary. Sharing resources meant that they could successfully keep the air ambulance in the skies. However, in 2015 a dedicated air ambulance service was launched with the charity using their own helicopter. Prior to the opening of the new facility the teams operated from different locations within the county; with the air ambulance being dispatched from an operation centre at the Police headquarters in Devizes. Operating from two different sites was always a short-term measure until a site was secured for the new airbase.

As a charity Wiltshire Air Ambulance have a set of core values which they abide by, one of which is the planet; “We are a responsible charity and make a difference by using local companies and where possible sourcing recycled and sustainable materials. We also have policies in place to offset our carbon emissions.” States Kevin Reed, Head of Facilities & Security.

Therefore, within the construction of this new centre they wanted to source suppliers and products that support their values.

THE SOLUTION

Corsham based Architects CMS Group were tasked with bringing the charity’s vision together with Melksham based Rigg Construction (Southern) Limited and saw the benefits that danfloor’s Eco Weave Tile could bring to the project.

The tile range, which is installed in multiple locations within the purpose-built facility from stair ways and offices to relaxation areas for the aircrew and charity team, is exceptionally hard wearing and offers a product which is 100% sustainable. Made from the Econyl® Nylon yarn the range maintains a strong environmental focus, as it is manufactured using pre and post-consumer waste, including items like abandoned fishing nets.

The fibres in this range are engineered to perform in the most demanding environments and are able to withstand high levels of traffic and heavy contact along with intense commercial cleaning without losing their appearance, which is why Eco Weave warrants the highest of 3 commercial wear classifications, Class 33.

“We are a responsible charity and make a difference by using local companies and where possible sourcing recycled and sustainable materials."

THE OUTCOME

The use of a tile product provided flexibility to structure the various areas and create a stylish interior by using a tessellated design. The Eco Weave Tile also offers the facility flexibility and ease when it comes to installation, replacement and access to electrical amenities based within the structure of the floors.Using colour 076 also helps to minimise the visual effects of soiling, which could occur in such a fast paced and dynamic environment.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance explains within their vision statement that they aim to actively ensure the health and wellbeing of their whole team. With this in mind the Eco Weave tile has achieved the Eurofins Gold Certificate for indoor air quality, which verifies it has exceptionally low emission and contributes to a healthy indoor environment.

In summary the Eco Weave tile offers the following key features:

Extreme durability – Certified to British standard classification 33 “Heavy Commercial Use” enabling it to withstand high volumes of foot and wheeled traffic and intense commercial cleaning.

Appearance Retention – Manufactured using a solution dyed Nylon yarn, Eco Weave Tile offers a locked in colourfast system which ensures superior colour and lightfastness even when subject to harsh cleaning chemicals.

Environmental Focus – The ECONYL® 100% Regenerated Nylon Yarn is 100% sustainable and infinitely regenerable.
