CHOCOLATE WORKS

Springfield Healthcare aim to deliver compassionate, life enhancing care in a place that is simply unlike any other. In conjunction with Norr Architects and Simpsons of York this landmark building now offers individual care suites and apartments with nursing support throughout, ensuring residents have access to specialist care in a modern environment.

THE AIM

This beautiful Grade II listed building has been lying unused and unloved for many years and Springfield Healthcare wanted to restore the setting into an environment which not only pays tribute to the heritage of the building but also provides a unique residential care home with specialist care facilities.

The centre piece of the Care Village is the Marketplace; with its absolutely stunning glass roof it is home to a café, shop, gym, spa and hairdresser as well as its very own pub, The Duke of York. In addition, there are 82 individual care suites and 8 apartments, all of which required the special attention of Springfield Healthcare’s dedicated design team and a flooring solution to suit all areas of the home.

THE SOLUTION

A variety of danfloor products were selected by Springfield and installed by MG Flooring and Building. Over 2000m2 of EQUINOX Tones Beige was fitted throughout the bedroom suites and apartments and then a range of colours from both EQUINOX and EQUINOX Tones were used within the communal lounges, cinema room and corridors.

With the natural high ceilings throughout the building the carpets also help to reduce sound reverberation which ultimately assists with creating a calm and therapeutic environment for our residents.”

The carpets selected from the EQUINOX Collection go a long way to enhance the interior design scheme of the home and work exceptionally well with the rest of the interior design schemes.

THE OUTCOME

Springfield Healthcare have created a care setting which is truly very special. This modern and stylish environment enhances the natural features of this striking building and the carpet is proving a very good choice offering a number of performance features including:

Appearance Retention – Manufactured using solution dyed yarns, the EQUINOX Collection offers a locked in colourfast system which ensures superior colour and lightfastness even when subject to harsh cleaning chemicals.

Spill safe – EQUINOX has an integral protective membrane, preventing liquid spills penetrating through the sub floor, reducing contamination, fungal growth and unpleasant odours.

Antimicrobial yarn treatment – The EQUINOX Collection has been developed to include Bi-Ome® innovative antimicrobial treatment which is designed to kill harmful bacteria including those that can cause MRSA and E-coli.

Naturally Sound absorbent – danfloor carpets have great sound absorption qualities which reduce noise reverberation times and creates a “therapeutic environment” in which people can relax.

Increases Independence – Carpet has been proven to increase the confidence of those who need assistance with walking; gait speed and step length is greater in older people walking on carpeted areas than when walking on vinyl. As a result, the EQUINOX Collection has been designed to facilitate and withstand impact from walking aids.
